Does TGIF still mean the same thing with block scheduling?

A student works in the Mac Lab.

“I think that we should not have school in general, because I could go skiing on Fridays, but I also just want to skip school.” said Freshman Sierra Meredith.

After not having Friday’s last year, Stevens students and staff are having a hard time transitioning back into having classes on Friday’s. Not only are students back in class on Friday, but they are in EVERY class on Friday.

During the week students are in block scheduling with classes every other day. But Friday they get to see every teacher and experience every subject…if they are in school, which is becoming a problem as well.

“Honestly, I would like it if it was like block scheduling like the other days, one week we do blues and next week we do silvers.” said Gwen Bridges.

Sophomore English Teacher Mr. Robinson also talked about the alternative options for Friday learning, “it is very interesting, but the remaining fields are either alternating block scheduling, or having online learning.”

Covid, athletics, warm weather, and other things pop up where students wind up missing that day which impacts their learning.

“Possibly, if lots of students are missing Fridays either from extracurriculars, or they get sick over the week, and they are leaving on Fridays and if our attendance rates generally show that Fridays are kind of high lack of attendance day.” said Sophomore English teacher Mr. Robinson.

With fifteen weeks left in the school year, it is sure that the current system will stay with students going to every class on Friday. But next year is wide open.

So, for now, it sounds like regardless of the Friday schedule it is still TGIF at Stevens.
