Heading into her third year at the helm – Hafner’s emphasis is on Raider success

Mrs. Hafner and the office staff take time out to show off their Raider Pride.

Looking at the main office of the school before the school year starts the office staff is putting together schedules and making changes. This year every student had a double lunch, dropping classes was not an option. and the school went from block to and eight hour day, so the office was busy making changes. They were also busy looking at summer school credits and making sure kids were where they were supposed to be as far as classes go. Mrs. Hafner said that there is never a day that is the same in the office. “The office is always busy and there is always something happening.” – Jocelyn J Hafner

And often that something is Raider success. Success is a common goal for almost every student, athlete and academics at Stevens. As Mrs. Hafner says, “Success means setting a goal and achieving it.” While there will always be struggles and challenges in school with teachers, parents, and students, setting goals is one thing students and staff can have control over.

But an important part of her job is making decisions, or setting goals, that affect all students and all staff members.  Sometimes the staff and students are able to assist in the decision making process and sometimes not. Those decisions don’t necessarily work out perfectly the first time, but it is up to Mrs. Hafner to consider how that decision will help students succeed. Regardless of the outcome, Mrs. Hafner believes that failure is “a learning experience.” And from failure we learn and grow and do better because we know better.

While this year will have its ups and downs, remember to find the positive in every situation and remember that success is different for everyone, and everyone finds their own success in time.
