Raider defensive line coach, Cody Benne says that he loves getting to build relationships with the players on the team. He has been a coach at Stevens for the last few years after leaving
Black Hills State University, where he also played collegiate football. Cody told us that he didn’t want to play football in college after graduating from Stevens, but he ended up enjoying it
because of the relationships he made and the work he put in.
Getting the job as the defensive line coach at Stevens meant a lot to Mr. Benne. He told us the reason he wanted to start coaching stemmed from his sophomore football season when he got
hurt. “When I was in high school, I got injured as a sophomore and I helped coach the positions that I was at for half a year. I really enjoyed it and then I decided that I wanted to
coach.” Which is good for Stevens because he is good at it, and he loves coaching. “I get to help out young guys that want to play the sport I always enjoyed playing.” This motivation fueled his desire to help kids not only on the football field, but also in the classroom.
After graduating college, Benne got a job as a physical education teacher at Grand View Elementary. There he loves to play dodgeball with the young kids. When we asked him what he
thought about it he told us, “It’s the best thing ever!” Benne’s passion for teaching kids and coaching young men had led him to be the great person he is today.
