Being a freshman can be tough, but many students find their stride in clubs or sports. Freshman Noah Ketel is no exception. The cross-country runner has noticed the changes from going to the high school team from the middle school team. “The meets are longer by about 1,000 meters, and it’s a lot bigger team, and you compete against a lot more people.” Ketel said.
Ketel got his start in Cross Country through his older siblings who ran before him. Even though he started because of his siblings he shortly fell in love with it when he started running at Southwest Middle School. He started running in sixth grade and he has been running since.
He stated that everyone has improved their time this season, including himself. When running 5,000 meters he got a time of 24:02.46 on Sept. 1 at the Northern Hills Invitational Cross-Country Meet, which then became a 21:05.45 on Sept. 22 at the Rapid City Area Schools High School Invitational Cross-Country Meet and became his personal record. One of his favorite parts of the season so far was the trip to Sioux Falls with his teammates, saying he enjoyed “staying with his friends”.
