For the last four years Senior Carson Fielder has been an avid snowboarder at the slopes of Terry Peak, but not this year. He, and many other Stevens students, have noticed that this year has been different from the rest. “It has not been the season I had hoped. Overall, the season has not been what it has been before.” said Fielder.
There has been an extremely small amount of snow this year. While western South Dakota isn’t always the most white in the winter, Terry Peak sees an average of 150 inches of the white stuff. This year has been almost minimal compared to the years before.
Fielder’s favorite run took a long time to open due to the lack of snow, “My favorite run is the glades by Little Hope, it always has the best snow on the mountain. Also, nobody goes there because of the difficulty so it gets you away from the hustle and bustle of the regular runs.”
He is very upset about the turn out of the season, but still goes up, purely for the enjoyment of the sport.
