The 2024 girls’ volleyball team has taken steps in the right direction. After a shaky last season, the girls have a new and improved team. Having younger girls step up and a new head coach, the girls are looking at a potential state qualifying team. As of now, the girls are tenth in the state, hoping to stay there or go up!
Back in 2022, Stevens’s volleyball made it to the state tournament. Seniors led them, Carsyn Mettler and Macey Wathen. Although the girls ended eighth, going to state was a huge accomplishment for the team. The following year was a little different. They had eight seniors on their team along with a few juniors and sophomores. They seemed to have struggled to gain
momentum on the season and ended 16th in the state with a 14-23 record.
Now, seniors Brianna Brewer and Sydney Wathen lead the girls. They also have help with some important juniors and sophomores including, Avery Kraus, Aspen Montague, Macey Davis, Mackenzie Schrieber, and Rehgan Broderick. Currently, their record is 17-9, which is a huge step-up from the previous year. The girls also have a new head coach, Lynzie Montague. Junior, Avery Kraus says, “This team is special. We are all super close and have great chemistry. We are going to go far!”
Halfway through the season, the girls are looking good. If they continue to stay eighth or higher in the state, they will be able to host the Sodak-16 game and potentially make it to the state tournament. Senior Brienna Brewer states, “I genuinely believe we can make it to state. We work so hard each day and have constant growth. We want it.” They will continue to put in the
hard work and make every touch the best they can.
After a rough patch in the road, this 2024 team has turned it around. They have a winning record and have a great chance on going far this year. They continue to fight hard every game and work for every win. This team is special, and we are excited to see where they can go
