The 2025 girls’ basketball team is going strong. After tipping off the season with a victory over Douglas, Rapid City Stevens squared off against Pierre in its home opener.
The Raiders jumped out early and never looked back. Stevens rolled over the Governors, 64-30. Taaliyah Porter led the Raiders with 14 points followed by Finley Love with 13 and Halle Peterson with 11. The Governors were led by Lennix DuPris with 10 points. Overall, the Raiders were outstanding from beyond the arc, knocking down 11 three-pointers.
Starting off the season with eleven wins and only three loses, the girls are on track for a record-breaking season. They have defeated some super challenging teams like Sioux Falls Jefferson and Spearfish with ease and are hoping to grab some more victories this season. As of right now they are sitting at the number 3 spot in the state with only Sioux Falls Washington and O’Gorman above them. They will face both of these teams upcoming in the year. Here are all of the teams they will face next: Central High on 1/31, O’Gorman on 2/7, Brandon Valley on 2/8, Yankton on 2/14, Harrisburg on 2/15, RCC on 2/21, Washington on 2/28, and finally Lincoln High School on 3/1.
Taaliyah Porter is a huge reason why they are 11-3 in the girls’ basketball season. She is the top scorer and carries the team as possession goes and gets the ball up the field.
The girls do a great job of winning the ball under their own net and bringing it up quickly and either shooting a three or going for an easy layup. Taaliyah states that, “I could never do it without my wonderful teammates.”
Finley Love is another star player for the Raiders this year. As only a junior Finley is by far the most aggressive player on the field and wins almost every challenge that she gets herself into. As well as her outstanding aggression, Finley is also a dialed shooter.
Whether it’s a three or an easy layup it is no problem for her amazing shooting and fast thinking.
Halle Peterson keeps our team in check and does a great time keeping possession.
She is awesome on defense as well as a dangerous offensive player. Right behind Finley and Taaliah, Halle is our third to the top scorer and another great player for the Raiders.
The Raiders incredible shooting show in the scores of the games and is the reason they are doing this well this season.
The girls will be playing Rapid City Central, a rival of theirs, tonight at 7. Come up and support your Raider girls basketball team in the Carold Heier gym.
