Rapid City Stevens intramural basketball is in full swing. The league got under way on January 12th.
Any student is allowed to participate in intramurals regardless of their skill level. Students create their own teams by inviting individuals to join their team.
This league is perfect for students that love basketball and no longer want to play at a competitive varsity level. Many students enjoy the social connections they make with fellow students as well as an opportunity to get some exercise running up and down the court. 19 teams participate in this league which takes place mostly on the weekends.
With the season underway the teams will be competing in the auxiliary and main gym. Each team is confident in their ability to get to the championship and win. The Stevens High School intramural basketball teams face multiple challenges. For many teams this is the first time they have played together as a team. It takes a few games to gel as a team. Each team does not have a formal coach. They must rely on their team chemistry, teamwork, and player leadership to be successful. Because they do not have practices, they must figure out how to strategies and defend the other team within a game.
As the season progresses, the players are hopeful that their efforts will not only lead to success in winning the championship but to also getting other people to join the league. With their commitment and passion for the game, the teams are ready to prove themselves on the court and win it all while creating lasting memories.
The Stevens High School intramural basketball league is all about creating a fun atmosphere for the students. Ashton Unterbrunner team captain of Cade and Em said, “My favorite part of intramural is being with my friends and playing the sport I love while still having fun with them.” Landin Roozenboom said, “My favorite part of intramurals is that I get to play with friends. Playing with the people you connected with makes the experience 10 times more fun and it is amazing to see your teammates and friends succeed while playing.”
This league allows students to have something to do outside of school and gives them time to connect with friends. Kesler Anderson stated, “My favorite part of intramural basketball is being able to play with and against my friends. The competitive but friendly environment makes for a great time.”
Some of the participants used to play competitively for Stevens and now play intramurals. Landin Roozenboom says, “The best part of playing intramurals compared to competitive basketball is there is no where near the same stress or pressure while playing. While you are always looking to win, you have the ability to be more relaxed and not worry about small things that may happen. You just get to play and have fun with the group.”
The teams competing include Cade and Em, Space Balls, Butterballers, Algerbros, Ice Spice Elite, The Rizzy Raiders, Not Original, Ken Carson Elite, BYU Elite, Elite, Baja Splashers, The Ballers, and Raindrops.
All these team are ready to compete and have fun trying to win it all. Don’t miss out on the fun and sign up for intramurals next year.
