Prom is one of the most anticipated events for high schoolers all over the country.
Typically, juniors and seniors get to attend this extravagant event. Getting dressed up, taking pictures, eating well, and dancing the night away are all parts of prom that students look forward to.
At Stevens High School, we do prom well!
The preparation for prom is one of the most crucial parts of the process. Girls often purchase their dresses months or weeks in advance. Senior, Maya Rearick shares, “I bought my dress about a month and a half early. I wanted to make sure I had it and did not have to stress about finding a dress last minute”. Dresses are only one part of the prestigious planning process with girls. Many girls like to tan, get their nails done, hair done, and much more to make sure they look their best on the special day. Although it may seem girls have a lot of planning to do, the boys also take time to prepare. Getting the perfect tux is a crucial step for the guys. They also often purchase a corsage and boutonniere if they are taking a girl. Combined, couples purchase tickets, reserve a spot for dinner, and make their plans for before and after prom.
After preparation is complete, it’s time for the special day! At Stevens, the most popular place to take pictures is Chapel in the Hills. Some of the other places include Canyon Lake, Reptile Gardens, and Jolly Lane Green House. Typically meeting for pictures at 3, the different groups revolve their plans around that. Many times, a group of girls will get ready together in the morning, while the boys hang around. Senior, Connor Williams states, “I really didn’t have to start getting ready until about 30 minutes to pictures”. After meeting for pictures, the groups go out to dinner at their different places, to then go to the big dance.
“Gatsby Galla” was this year’s theme for the night. The Roaring 20s, gold, and feathers were all a big part of the theme. Jumping around to music, taking a seat, and getting to see many people are some of the best parts of the dance. Junior, Macey Davis, shares her thoughts on the dance. “It was a lot more crowded than I thought. So many people jumping, dancing, and yelling, but it was super fun. I loved being able to see everyone and their outfits”. The dance can be overwhelming at times, but that is what makes it memorable!
After the dance, the groups head their separate ways, reflecting on a night they have thought so much about. For the seniors, it is a sentimental feeling. The last big event before graduation. Although it can be sad, it is also an exciting time for new beginnings. Prom is something that everyone will remember for the rest of their lives
