As the snow melts and the sun finally decides to make a comeback, so do the outfits. Say goodbye to winter hoodies and hello to flowy skirts, platform sandals, and pastels, everything. If you’ve walked down the halls lately, you’ve probably noticed that spring fashion at SHS is in full bloom—and it’s giving us major main character energy.
From thrifted fits to TikTok trends, 2025’s spring fashion is all about self-expression, comfort, and a hint of 90s and throwbacks. Whether you’re dressing up for a game day Friday or just trying to survive your 8 AM with some style, there’s something in this season’s trends for everyone. “I’ve been loving maxi skirts and baby tees,” says Senior Leah Canaday. “It’s like comfy but still cute, and you can totally dress it up or down depending on your mood.” She’s not alone. Maxi skirts—especially the flowy boho ones—are trending hard right now paired with cropped cardigans, sneakers, or even cowboy boots. (Yes, cowboy boots are still going strong.)
Color-wise, pastels are having their moment. Lavender, mint green, soft yellows, and blush pinks are everywhere—from oversized sweaters to painted nails. According to Teen Vogue, pastel tones are topping the charts for Gen Z’s favorite spring hues, and SHS students are clearly on board. Another trend that’s huge right now? Oversized everything. Big denim jackets slouchy jeans, loose cargos—it’s giving effortless, chill vibes. “I literally stole my brother’s flannel,” laughs Junior, Lily Schad. “Oversized just feels more relaxed, and I can layer it with anything.”
Layering has become a go-to, especially with South Dakota’s “it’s warm at lunch but snowing by fourth period” kind of weather.
And let’s not forget about shoes. Platform sneakers, Birkenstock clogs, and even classic Converse are stepping back into the spotlight. Crocs, once considered cringe, are now being worn with charms and fuzzy socks. Somehow, they’re cool now (don’t ask us how—we’re just as surprised). One of the best parts of this spring’s fashion at SHS is how personalized it is. Students are mixing vintage with modern, sporty with preppy, and even pulling looks straight from Pinterest boards. Thrifting has become more than just a budget move, it’s a style statement.
Junior Kayanna Green puts it best: “Fashion right now is all about being you. No one’s afraid to try something weird or bold. Like, if I want to wear rainbow leg warmers with a tennis skirt, I’m going to do it.” Whether you’re fully into the spring fashion game or just trying to swap your winter jacket for something lighter, there’s no denying the energy in the halls this season.
It’s bright, bold, and full of personality—just like the students of SHS. So, if you’ve been waiting for a sign to wear that funky floral blouse or finally try those low-rise cargos you thrifted… this is it. Spring 2025 is all about owning your style, whatever that looks like.
