Fall Sports Roundup

Eight sports, over one hundred athletes, and one unforgettable season. It’s no secret that Stevens is home to many talented and hard working individuals. These past few months they’ve all put so much effort into their respective sports, dedicating their time before, during, and after school to their teams. So, let’s take time to celebrate all that they’ve accomplished.

Football

With only playoffs left to go, the football team has had a far better season than last year. With 3 wins and 6 losses, the team has won 3 more games than last year – a notable improvement. This was undoubtedly achieved through both players’ and coaches’ passion for the sport, giving up their time during the summer to practice and carefully analyzing their mistakes from each game. Last night the team had a phenomenal win against Central, crushing them 49-0 and securing a spot in the playoffs. Best of luck at the playoffs, go Raiders!

Girls Tennis

Wow, what a season! The girls tennis team was undefeated all season with a stunning record of 28 dual wins and 0 losses. It seems that practice really does make perfect! And if that wasn’t enough, the team also took home its first state title since 2006! With four individual singles champions and a 24.5 lead over second place, it’s clear that they dominated the courts. Congratulations to the girls for such a wonderful season!

Boys Soccer

The boys soccer team had an impressive season with 12 wins and 3 losses. The boys clearly put in a ton of work into their sport, practicing as much as possible while identifying their mistakes and working on them. Thankfully, their hard work paid off as they won 3 to 0 against Sioux Falls Lincoln, advancing to the semifinals. There, the boys faced off against Yankton. Forcing them to work extremely hard for their goals, it’s clear that the Raiders brought their ‘A’ game. With a 3-2 loss, the boys ended their incredible season there.

Girls Soccer

This season the girls worked unbelievably hard and as a result had an outstanding season. With 12 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie, their passion and dedication to their sport has certainly payed off. After defeating Aberdeen Central 3 to 1 in the semifinals, they advanced to the state championships. There, they faced off against Sioux Falls Roosevelt for the state title. Without a doubt, they put up an impressive fight, giving it their all. After a tough match, the girls finished runner up. Congratulations on such a phenomenal season!

Volleyball

The volleyball team has had a great season this year! Throughout these past months, the girls have put forth all their effort in each practice and match in order to be at the top of their game. With 13 wins and 14 losses, it’s clear that the girls have worked extremely hard to get to where they are. Haven’t caught a match from these ladies yet? No worries, the season still has a few more weeks to go!

Cross Country

This season the athletes battled through both unbearably hot and frigidly cold days as they competed in their events. They’ve given it their all, dedicating significant time to their practices and meets. Their hard work landed them in 11th place out of 19 teams in Class AA. Great work! This weekend the athletes are competed in the state meet with amazing results. The boys finished first place overall while the girls took third. Congratulations on such a phenomenal accomplishment!

Boys Golf

The team worked very hard this season to perfect their game. For example, the team scored 325 points at the West River Invitational, with Carter Mockabee, Taylor Anderson, and Ben Partridge having individual wins in the top 10. Besides the West River Invitational, they played in many different others and performed well. The boys finished 11th place in Division AA of South Dakota Boys High School Golf at the end of their season.

Softball

Despite a strong showing throughout the season, the Girls Softball team did not have the ending it hoped for. However, while the Varsity team struggled at state, the JV turned up the heat finishing the year as the JV State Champions. Congratulations to Irelyn Spencer, Marlee Jennings and Nieva Colicheski for make the Class A 1st Team All State Fast Pitch Team and to Maddy Sebbo and Gracelynn Kelly for making the 2nd Team!

Band

Without a doubt, the band is one of the main attractions at Stevens High School. Whether they are exciting the crowd with their peppy songs or performing their fantastic show at halftime, they always manage to fill the air with melodious sounds. This year their performance consisted of a compilation of Elton John songs which they expertly played for all to hear. It seems as though others love the band just as much as we do, for they placed 3rd overall at their competition in Wyoming. A round of applause for the band and their outstanding show!
