One of Stevens High School’s biggest homecoming traditions is a Powderpuff football game for the senior girls, and this year a new game was introduced, Ironman volleyball for senior boys.
While this week typically only sees an additional event for the girls, the seniors decided it was time for the boys to get in on the fun. So, Ironman volleyball was introduced. It was an event where the boys play volleyball. “I love just smacking balls in a bunch of dudes faces” Kaleb Kangootui stated after the volleyball game.
“It was very interactive, and it included a bunch of different people,” Noah Cessna stated. These activities are a good way to bring the senior class together and let them interact with people that they normally would not. “It’s pretty good, it gets people active, it gets people out of their comfort zone and lets people try out different sports,” said Cessna.
Like Powderpuff, Ironman volleyball split into two teams and the girls on the volleyball team were the coaches. “We kind of tested them before the game like who could set, who could pass and who could hit and we kind of just went with it” Senior Volleyball player Avery Kraus states. They were having fun and there was no stress, which was nice. This is helpful because senior year is a stressful time for most people, so this brings a positive part to the year.
While the boys were battling on the court, the girls were taken to the field. Maya Harwood struggled while playing quarterback for her team, “trying to get the ball out of her hands quick enough”. This could help prevent getting sacked and getting yards pushed back.
Some of the football players and senior boys coached the teams, Senior Reed Meyer coached the pink team which ended up losing the game. Some of the girls on this team were Cameron Worsley, Elaine Reiter, and Mattie Waltman. Now, the winning team was the white team coached by football player Jon Paul Sullivan which showcased the Finley Love, Maya Harwood, and Sayde Hunt.
These events added new fun to homecoming week and gave the seniors good memories before they leave off to college. It also serves as a great way to bring the senior class together and hang around with people that they do not normally hang around. Altogether, homecoming is a great time for the senior class.
