Entering this year Stevens’ track and field athletes were looking to compete at a high level this year. This track team has been very successful in past years, ranking highly as a team and having high ranking individuals. This team is led by great coaches that want the best for their athletes.
As track started in March many athletes are ready to compete and start show off their talent on the track. Since the season has started many records have been broken throughout the meets. School records like the girls 1600m run, boys 110mh, girls 100mh, girls 4x100m relay, Boys javelin, Boys and girls dmr, and many more to come.
Track coaches make sure our stevens athletes are always prepared and healthy enough to compete while running, jumping, or throwing at a high level. Coaches focused on bringing the athletes together as a team and not just themselves as individuals.
When asking Blake Swanson about track overall he said, “I think it’s like the best sprot, because it’s a true test of human aptitude and athletics”. Swanson believes Track and Field is a hard mental sport as you rely on yourself. He says, “you’re only relying on yourself”.
While talking about the impact of the coaching staff Swanson said, “And we overall have one of the best teams in the state and in the region. And out coaching staff has done a really good job too create that culture and that success in our team”. Track isn’t just the athletes but also the coaching staff that is there with them pushing them every day.
Overall, the Stevens track and field team is looking forward to completing and competing in another great season. Entering and exiting this season with talented athletes and coaches that push these athletes to achieve greatness. This team hopes to keep breaking records and compete at a high level.
The Raiders are heading to state May 28-30 in Sioux Falls.
