“What happens on the gridiron stays on the gridiron,” says Junior Kaiden Strong

The football season has wrapped up for the year, finishing with three wins on the season.

Practicing after school every day for about two and a half hours, working on conditioning, stretching, hitting and tackling drills, and team bonding. The players also watch films on the upcoming opponent. They watch to learn the other team’s plays so that they can prepare for the game.

The games last anywhere from two to four hours. Starting out their games, certain people start over others because sometimes they are seniors, sometimes they need larger players, and sometimes the people who start are better than others. During games, there is usually a large student section, that cheers and encourages the players.

There is also an emotional connection with the players, the team, and the sport. When they get a touchdown they feel the emotion of excitement and success. To get hit by another player some say they don’t feel it, and some say that it feels just like it sounds.

In the emotional aspect of it, most players feel like the sport of football has changed them as a person, made them a better person, and helped them grow personally. Beck Morgan stated that playing on the football team has made him a better team player and improved his sportsmanship towards other teams and other players.

They have also been influenced by previous players, Kaiden Strong says that he was influenced by Jevon Mcnabb, a senior last year, because he was a great team leader, and he performed well on the field.

Overall, talking to a few of the football players, one can see how football has helped them grow and meet new people and bond with them. Looking at their practices, and games shows how much effort, time, and dedication they put into a sport they love.
