After a brief absence, a mascot has finally returned to Stevens High School, with the new Raider mascot debuting last Saturday, October 18th. He attended the Stevens Varsity Volleyball game, where he was seen taking selfies and high-fiving audience members. Not only is he serving a whole new look this year, but he’s hiding brand new secrets under the mask. So, here’s all you need to know about the new Raider mascot.
Will the mascot ever reveal himself? “No, the mascot will never reveal itself; we must protect the identity of our mascot,” says Student Body President, Elena Braun. This is out of strict protection of the mascot. If he is ever revealed, his well-being could be at risk.
What is the mascot’s name? His name will be chosen by Rapid City elementary students and will be revealed soon…
Can he talk? According to the Student Council, the mascot is not permitted to speak to the student body. Again, this is out of confidentiality for the mascot; voice is a dead giveaway of who is behind the mask. (We reached out to him for an interview, but his publicist strictly declined.)
Can he be touched? Besides a casual high five, you cannot touch the mascot. You should never initiate any physical contact.
Why do we have a mascot? “To build school spirit at events!” says Student Council member Camille Callahan. Student Council Advisor Ms. Gisi adds, “The mascot brings our school spirit to life!” While he hasn’t been here very long, his presence has already made such a fun impact at Stevens. He will continue to show up around school to spread his natural positivity.
While we may not know a ton about our new Raider mascot, we welcome him with open arms. His school spirit is undeniable and a great addition to the atmosphere at Stevens. He may not have been here long, but if one thing is clear, he’s here to stay.
