Football Team Ends Losing Streak

Takes down the Roughriders

TOUCHDOWN! On Saturday, September 4, 2021, the Stevens football team broke a 12 game losing streak fighting valiantly against the Sioux Falls Roosevelt Roughriders.

In the intense match on Saturday, the boys fought for every last tackle, takedown, and touchdown. Despite getting tired, they came back on fire in the fourth quarter and really brought it home.

After a dangerous sack, creating a third-and-sixteen situation, the quarterback, Jed Jenson, completed a 25-yard pass to Easton Ogle, who ran it in for a 54-yard touchdown, making the game 36-27, Stevens. Ogle was relieved, “at that point I knew we were going to win and it was just a really exciting feeling.”

Eight seconds later – after a Roosevelt sack by Brandon Inman that caused the ball to be knocked loose from the Roosevelt quarterback – Luke Jegeris recovered the fumble for a thirty-yard touchdown. This caused the sideline and stands to erupt in applause and yelling because everyone knew they were going to win now.

“Throughout the whole game we showed that we can compete with anyone we play and I think that was just a very inspiring thing to see for our team because, honestly, I think just believing we can do it is the biggest part…I think we’re going to start playing a lot more confident coming into every game, really believing that we can pull a win out,” Ogle explained.

With only two minutes left, the team played hard to keep Roosevelt at bay. The football team won for the first time in two years against Roosevelt with a score of 43-27. This was also the most amount of points that Stevens has scored in one game since they beat Spearfish 66-6 in 2018.

The Raiders square off against Sioux Falls Jefferson, in Sioux Falls, on Friday, September 10, 2021. Ogle confidently said, “We’re going to win, no doubt about that.”

He also stressed the appreciation for the fans, “they’re very important for the team’s success, and we’d really appreciate it if you guys came out and showed some love.”

Stevens record is currently 1-1.
